Alyona Shulima, PhD, Partner at Pragma Consulting Group and Chair of the Subsoil Use Committee of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, took part in the 11th International Scientific and Practical Conference “Subsoil Use in Ukraine. Investment Prospects”, organized by the State Service of Geology and Subsoil of Ukraine and the State Commission of Ukraine on Mineral Resources (DKZ).
On 6–8 October, the conference brought together representatives of relevant ministries, parliament, government agencies, business, industry associations and academia to discuss improving the regulation of the sector, energy independence under martial law, critical and strategic minerals, the investment potential of the mineral resource base, and training specialists for the geological sector.
Alyona Shulima spoke on the panel “Challenges for Subsoil Users and Ways to Address Them”, moderated by DKZ Head Serhii Paiuk. Together with representatives of industry associations and business, the panelists discussed the practical barriers subsoil users face every day and possible ways to overcome them through cooperation between business and the state.
“For me, the culture of subsoil use is about trust, fair competition, and the ability to reach agreements and keep them. It is about understanding that subsoil use is not only about extraction today, but about what kind of industry we are shaping. It is about your own responsibility for how you act and what you bring to the work you do,” said Alyona Shulima.
